Visual Tour: Boot-menu Sabayon LiveCD/DVD
Welcome to the visual tour of booting Sabayon Linux.
In this process I will explain you what the different Menu options does.
In order to boot the live cd/dvd all you have to do is make sure your bios is set to boot off of your dvdrom drive first. Check with your motherboard manual on how to change the boot order. So power up the computer and place the dvd into your drive. The computer should auto detect a bootable disk and you should be looking at a screen similar to the one to the right of here. Click Images to See Full Sizes
Start Sabayon 10 Gnome << this will start the Gnome Desktop with default settings.
Start Sabayon Media Center << same as above but based on the XBMC media Center.
Graphical Installation << this boots the default Desktop, and launches the Anaconda Installer.
Graphical Installation (Media Center) << same as above but installs Media Center as Default.
Text Installation << Console based Textual install method. You can navigate and select through the options using TAB and SPACE.
Safe Mode << boot with minimal stuff.
Console mode << Console mode will give you a fully working command line interface and can be very handy for a rescue cd.
Check Disc for Defects << This, i think is self explaining., it checks your disc for defects.
Debug mode, memory test, and Boot from first Hard disc << Debug mode is more or less for advanced users, and gives you a minimal Bash command prompt for debugging. Memory test will test your RAM memory, and Boot from first Hard disc simply will boot from the first hard disc.
This is the screen where we can enter in your boot parameters aka "cheat codes". We want to hit F5 and now you see the box that is displaying in the options.
We don't want to mess with any thing that is already in that box, we just want to simply add to it, so hit ESCAPE and place your cheat code" at the end of the line. You will adjust that to what ever you need for your hardware, now hit Enter - - Also see Boot Parameters at this page Sabayon_Linux#Boot_parameters_and_workarounds_for_problematic_Hardware and Tips#Cheat_Codes
And we are off and running!
You can hit Alt F1 and you will now see the following. This screen can be very important for troubleshooting boot up issues.
Once again the lovely screen will come back, you can hit F2 to see boot process in verbose or just sit back and wait.
I like to see what is going on behind the scenes and love to see all those [ ok ] so I hit F2. We are getting near the end here. Now you may have to have some patience at this point and time and let it fire up it's magic to get your video card ready for the eye candy.
The live dvd should boot straight to a desktop without a login box, but if you happen to get a login box or logout of the desktop, this would be the screen you are at. Username = sabayonuser with password = sabayonunser. Note root account is root with blank password. So if you have to use su to switch to root, type su and when asks for password, just hit enter.
The beautiful Gnome desktop environment is ready for usage
