Install a Canon Pixma Printer

The Canon Pixma Series is well supported, the regular installation shouldn't be too difficult. Since I had some trouble getting my Pixma MP620 to work via network (Printing + Scanning), I'll give a short description of the steps:

1) The driver for cups should be included in the packages cnijfilter

2) To enable network printing, install bjnp with emerge (no overlay needed anymore as described in other tutorials)

3) Restart cups (with systemd: systemctl restart cups.service)

4) open cups (by default it should be http://localhost:631 )

5) Add a printer using bjnp://IP_ADRESS_OF_YOUR_PRINTER as connection

For Scanning:

In case xsane doesn't find your PIXMA automatically, add the printer URL ( bjnp://IP_ADRESS_OF_YOUR_PRINTER ) to /etc/sane.d/pixma.conf

Have fun!
